Eyeball. mood: am I dead? music: "Open Mind" by Blackfield
Like Lauren, I am writing to you right now instead of composing my AP Gov essay--ah, how ye olde Blogger can be used for various forms of procrastination. Hey, at least I'm updating, huh?
I got a new e-mail address by the way. Here it is for those who didn't get the e-mail:
CrudeSunlight @ gmail . com
Yesterday was a momentous occaision: not just for the end of the Olympics, but also the fact that I officially finished my ninth diary. Whoo-hoo! I bought the new blank book for the tenth one: red leather cover with shiny gold on the sides of the pages and a heart (kinda like the Sacred Heart, sans the thorns) in the middle. It's also got a border around said organ-looking heart that's got fleur de lis's on it. It had to be extra special because it's my tenth one. Let's hope the events in the near future will be pleasent ones so I don't get another Black Book! Whoo~!
School wasn't that bad at all today, so that was good. And plus, I won't have to present my Senior Project stuff until next week because our guidance counselor Mrs. Strunk is coming in on Friday to tell us about scholarships and colleges and stuff. That reminds me--I need to start working on that UGA application asap. When's the due date for early applications again?
Had to go to the Ortho after school, but it wasn't so bad. The due date for getting these braces off is June, but Dr. Lane said they should be coming out sooner than that, so that's good. Don't know how much sooner, but at least I don't have to graduate with 'em.
Ooh, so hungry. Mom's making shredded salsa chicken, so I can't wait until dinner comes. I'll probably start working on my AP Gov paper after dinner, or maybe when I'm done with this. We'll see how I feel, or what comes first. Ah hell, I'll just start it now.
Finally! mood: root vegetable music: "Aaangry Megaphone Man" by The Dissociatives
I finally managed to get downloaded copies of both the Blackfield and Dissociatives CDs, and they are as good as I had expected them to be. I put them on my iPOD as soon as I was able to. "Pain" is my favorite song off the Blackfield CD by far, and "Horror with Eyeballs" still remains the favorite on The Dissociatives. I already managed to learn "Pain" yesterday on my guitar. Very, very good CDs.
Last Saturday, I spent the whole day with Kalan; we cruised flea markets in Alabama for most of the day. Kalan bought me a really pretty ornamental knife with a mermaid on the sheath (my choice, of course), and he bought this really cool-looking jagged knife thing for himself. Lauren had gotten her digital camera that day, so we decided to be stupid and did some poses for her with our new knives. I'll post them at some point, more than likely. Saturday was a lot of fun.
The High Museum and Margarete Mitchell house were quite boring yesterday. And it rained. Our group ended up staying at the museum for another hour because we had so much time left over, so Lauren and I looked at the European and American art. The European art section had beautiful paintings and statues and things like that--the American art section had furniture. And portraits of old people. It stormed really bad while we were in the museum, so we had to track through the rain to get back to the buses.
We drew numbers today in Humanities for when we're presenting Phase I of our senior projects; I'm number 29. Poor Lauren's number 5, so she's definitely going next Wednesday. I'll probably be going next Friday, thank God.
MEAT. mood: italicized music: "Open Mind" by Blackfield
Whew, I just finished the stuff I needed to do for my French project--I'll be presenting it tomorrow. I need to review a little bit more for the Zoology test I have tomorrow as well as the two AP Gov quizzes. Oh yeah, I need to look over the CHS handbook for the that test tomorrow, too. They changed some stuff. Otherwise, I think I'm pretty much done with the crunch work for this week. Kalan's going to pick me up from school tomorrow so we can spend some time together, and I'm really looking forward to that. I haven't seen him in nearly two weeks! Damn you, school! Damn you!
Time for more music updates: Blackfield have increased the soundclips for their album tracks to one minute long each, so you can get more out of the samples. Listen to them; they're really good. One of my favorites is "Pain" because I love the sound of Aviv Geffen's voice--I'm glad he gets some songs to himself. Not that I don't love Steve Wilson, too. He's my favorite Brit. Their CD officially comes out on August 23rd (hopefully in America as well), so I highly recommend you check them out. Some of the best melancholic rock I've heard.
The Dissociatives have officially released their music video "Horror with Eyeballs" on their website, so if you haven't already watched it, now's a good time. Plus, their album has been released in New Zealand under Virgin Records, so hopefully they'll be released in America sometime soon. Looks like I'm still going to have to order their CD off Ebay.
On the Nine Inch Nails website, Trent Reznor's stated that they've recorded a lot of tracks for the new album that's being released this year. He's crossed out the names of the tracks as well as the CD itself, so it's still a complete mystery. I'm not even quite sure when it'll be released--possibly in the late fall. Something to look forward to.
Of course, Porcupine Tree is plodding along with their new CD, expected to come out sometime in September. They've recorded the demos and are deciding which of these tracks they will include on the album:
Deadwing
Revenant
So Called Friend
Christenings
Open Car
Shallow
The Start of Something Beautiful
Halo
Arriving Somewhere But Not Here
Glass Arm Shattering
Mother and Child Divided
Lazarus
Mellotron Scratch
Half-light
Ooh, sounds exciting. Their news section on the website also has some nice black and white pictures of the recording process. I don't know how Steve Wilson can juggle the release of the Blackfield album and his own with Porcupine Tree, but he seems to be doing it. And that's why I love him.
Anyway, after that fun plugging, I orded Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in French from Barnes and Noble the other day. It should be coming in sometime this week. I wanted that one specifically first because I like Lupin. I wonder if they've translated the fifth book yet? I'm curious as to what the cover looks like--the French covers are not the best looking, unfortunately.
Well, I really should be going off to study. I want to make all this slaving away worth something, after all.
Yogurt Parfaits and Speaking français--ahh, Poetry. mood: perpendicular music: "Happy Child" by Tweaker
So, the first week of school draws to a close, and I must say, it's completely buried me in work. I've been doing homework for hours pretty much every day, and it's not fun. Most of it is because of Zoology, which I currently despise. That thing I said about how it "shouldn't be too bad because Coach Oliver's a coach? Yeah, bull. Turns out his main profession is a Zoologist, he invented the class for Columbus High, and the lesson plan is completely his creation. So, we started taking notes immediately on the first day of school, finished taking notes on the unit the second day, and had a "quiz" on it yesterday. And by "quiz" I mean ten open-ended questions where we have to describe as much as possible about the different organelles of the animal cell. I ended up losing five points for saying ribosomes contain proteins instead of create them, lost five points for not including all of the functions of a cell wall, and missed another question completely. We took notes on Unit 2 after taking the quiz and had a quiz on that information today. I have a big problem with cramming a whole unit into one day's worth of notes and having an open-ended "quiz" on it worth 100 points the next day. I tried getting out of it and taking Human Phys. since it was on the same block, but of course, it was full. So now I'm stuck in this class, being forced to study for hours after school so I can pass these dumb quizzes--which are really tests, dammit.
Well, hopefully it'll get better over time. I'm really uncomfortable with being busy with studying for so long, since I don't have a lot of free time anymore. I've had to turn down going out with Kalan twice so far because of all these projects and tests, and I feel bad for it. Hopefully things'll calm down since this is the first week of school. I miss you, free time.
Today's title comes from the stupid poem I had to write for AP Literature the other day. We were supposed to write a page about ourselves, and I hate doing stuff like that for school because I always feel like I'm showing off. Plus, assignments like that always generate poems and writings from students who "aren't the typical seventeen-year-old" and are misunderstood and all that shit. God, I hate hearing that stuff from people who think they're so individual and rebellious; ugh. Pseudo-intellectuals annoy the crap out of me. I really didn't feel like getting too deep with mine, so I just made mine light and simple. Ugh, all those "people don't understand me," and blah.
Ah, venting feels good. I'm so tired from work, I feel like bitching, but I'm good now. We're going up to Athens with Eric this Sunday to help move him back into his dorm for college, so that'll be fun. We're also going to celebrate his 20th birthday this Saturday since he'll be at college during his real birthday on the, well, 20th. God, I can't believe my brother's 20 already; that's so weird to think about.
Okay, tired now. I need to get some sleep so I'll be in good shape for my French presentation tomorrow. And then I can concentrate on the projects that are due on Monday. And Wednesday. And Thursday.
If I do Something Naughty, will You Use Your Handcuffs? mood: ambidextrous music: "Cloudy Now" by Blackfield
Friday was Kalan and me's five-month anniversary, so we went to Carraba's for dinner last night. I had chicken marsala, and he had some sort of pasta. It was really good; a nice last big meal before I hop on to the healthy eating again when school starts up. Kalan also surprised me with a beautiful ornamental shortsword with an embroidered sheath and a small vial of Medieval Rose oil before we went to dinner. He told me when he found the sword, it reminded him of me. Aww, so sweet! Thank you so much, Kalan!
Unfortunately, he couldn't stay at the apartment after dinner because I still have that damn summer work to finish. I managed to get all the quotations done, and I have nearly all the information for the book cards. When Kalan and I stopped by Wal-Mart so I could buy some index cards, we found that all the 4X6 lined index cards had been completely sold out--the only kind of index cards that were sold out. I'm going to have to get Mom to buy some tomorrow at Office Depot or something, because that worries me a little bit.
Hair update! I got my hair died a dark brown with blond patches in it on Thursday; believe me, it looks much better than it sounds. I absolutely love it! My hair is much shorter and spikier too, so it's really easy to deal with. I'll try to get a picture up a-sap. Thursday was my last official day of working at Stacey's, so Stacey, Isaac, and I went to Applebee's for lunch to celebrate. I'm still going to work on the Saturday's that Stacey is working, and I'm going to see if I can work some days after school, too. Man, I'm going to miss that job so much. Damn you school!
Speaking of which, I have a rather agreeable schedule this year, thank goodness. And they didn't screw over my French classes this time, either! I left my schedule in Mary's car, so I don't quite remember the order the classes go in, but I know the classes themselves: Advanced Women's Chorus with Mrs. Vinson, AP Literature with Mrs. Portwood, AP Government with Mr. Broda, Humanities with Mr. Cypert, Zoology with Coach Oliver, French IV with Mrs. Chuites, AP French also with Mrs. Chuites, and Advanced Trigonometry with Coach Ingram. I like everything about my schedule except for Zoology, which I got stuck with because Geology wouldn't work in. That's not really so bad though, since the rest of the schedule is perfect, and the teacher is a coach, so I can't imagine it would be too difficult. I'm not looking forward to slicing open cats, though.
Peter's coming tonight! He'll be staying with us for the next few days, so that will be fun. We'll get to show him Snowboard Kids and my hair and all that other fun stuff. Lauren and I cleaned up a good amount of the apartment, so we should be ready for him when he comes. He told Lauren on the phone that he's going to make sure we'll go to bed at a decent time tonight so we'll be ready for school tomorrow. "I'll be like a Nanny!" he said.
God, tomorrow--why tomorrow . . . ?
If you're wondering about the title, that was an exact quote that my character said to a detective in "The Sims: Bustin' Out" for the GBA. I love that game; it's so full of blatant innuendo.
Volunteer Work: Completed. mood: creamy music: "Hello, Helicopter!" by OSI
Lauren and I went to our last volunteer work thing at the Museum today, thank God. We both accidently went without bringing something to do, so we were forced to make awkward and unfamiliar conversation with one another. No, we were fine--it's just trying to think of things to talk about for three and a halk hours straight can get a little mind-bending at times. Plus, we had no sales at all, except for my own at the end of the day. I bought this nice handmade little purse with beautiful shiny purple stitching. Ooh, so pretty! I was sad to discover the cheddar ranch Frito's that I usually enjoyed during volunteer work had been replaced in the vending machine, so I was forced to try bagged Hot Fries, which were utterly disgusting. They tasted like peppery flaky paper. Ick. But, Lauren and I fared well in the end, and we are finally free.
Kalan and I are planning on seeing Spiderman 2 tomorrow, which will be fun. He hasn't seen it yet, so I'm looking forward to it. He's also going to show me the stuff he bought at the flea market the other day. He told me about the sword he bought on the phone, and it sounds really cool.
Mom, Lauren, and I went to the Colonial Mall in Macon yesterday for some fun-filled clothes shopping during this glorious tax-free weekend. We went crazy in Belk's and bought a ton of clothes for only $68. We ended up saving $108 because of the sales and no taxes. The steal of the day? A beautiful black no-sleeved turtle neck that was originally $41, bought for only $12. Hell yeah! It's my favorite of the stuff I got. I also got some nice pin-striped pants, which I have been wanting for forever. Got 'em on sale for $14 instead of the original $32. After purchasing some wonderfull new makeup from Mac (including an almost black nail polish called "Moody Blue"), we browsed the shoes and went home with some delicious Moolattes from Dairy Queen. Damn, those things are good; they are, dare I say, like love in the mouth.
We braved the frenzy at Target today for some basic school supplies while the tax-free weekend was still here, and I tell you, it was pandemonium; screaming kids everywhere, cart traffic jams, fights over checkout lines, the whole hooplah. We lucked out and managed to snag a newly-opened register, so we got out fairly quickly.
The Dissociatives's newest single "Horror with Eyeballs" finally has a music video. I command you to watch it now or I'll force Lauren to cut her hair. Seriously. Watch it. Believe me, you'll like it.
Je t'ai croisée
Un samedi soir
Et j'ai jeté sur ta silhouette
Une poignée d'épices colorées
Mon but était clair
